My father, an enthusiastic choirmaster and organ virtuoso, had unusually intensive links to the musical world of Vienna. Witnessing to this passionate closeness and knowledgeable intimacy is the collection of his texts, which in harmonious diversity unite to form a fascinating living picture. Today this work is in my hands, and I wish to share it with those who rejoice in this very special search for clues. Those who follow my father’s impressions, adventures and experiences in the musical world of Vienna will be rewarded with surprising insights and new perspectives on the familiar that will awaken their curiosity and whet their appetite for their own experiences and appreciations. Not least: The Vienna of my father is in the past, but it is no way past. Many of the stages for splendid performances or enchantingly frivolous minstrelsy sound just as they always have, as some taverns and establishments can still recount.
